Windows Insiders on the Release Preview Ring can now download Windows 11 build 22621.2361, which introduces the new Copilot AI Assistant and other features that will be included in Windows 11 version 23H2 later this quarter. To receive these updates, users must have the toggle enabled in Windows Update.
Along with Copilot, Insiders with the toggle enabled will also have access to the modernized File Explorer, new text authoring experiences for voice access, new natural voices in Narrator, and Windows Backup. The team plans to share a more comprehensive list of features on September 26th.
For non-Insiders, these features will be available in preview on September 26th with the optional update for Windows 11 version 22H2. The public rollout is scheduled to begin on October 10th, coinciding with Patch Tuesday.
While Microsoft discussed Copilot extensively, it will not be available in all markets. Windows 11 users in Europe, Russia, Belarus, and China will not have access to the AI assistant. The reasons for this limitation are not entirely clear, but it is possible that the EU Commission’s recent designation of Windows as a “core platform service” that requires regulation may be a contributing factor.
