Microsoft has launched the highly-awaited DALL-E integration for Paint to all Windows 11 users. With DALL-E 3 integration, Microsoft Paint now allows you to create AI-generated images using the power of OpenAI-‘s ChatGPT. The feature is accessible through a “Cocreator” button in Paint.

During the September 26 event, Microsoft confirmed its plans to extend Bing Chat AI features to Windows and inbox apps such as Paint. A new update, now available to all users outside the Insider program, enables you to utilize the “Cocreator” feature and generate DALL-3 images.

Microsoft’s Paint’s Cocreator feature has been accessible on Windows 11 through the Canary and Dev channels since September, and it has now been made available to users in the Release Preview Channel. As of this week, you can experiment with DALLE-3 in Microsoft Paint on Windows 11.

In our testing, DALL-E 3 functions similarly to Bing Image Creator and ChatGPT Plus’s DALL-E. To use the feature, simply open an empty instance of Paint and click the “Cocreator” button on the right side of the toolbar. You can then provide Microsoft’s DALL-E with a description of what you would like to see generated using the magic of AI.

Our test results show that Paint’s AI-powered output is remarkably good and accurately reflects the given description. You can also explore more art variations via the Cocreator sidebar in Paint. For those new to AI, Microsoft provides a beginner four-step tutorial within the app to assist in getting started with AI in Paint.

It is also worth noting that Microsoft may require some users to sign up for the waitlist in the side panel, which may take a few days for approval. If you do not see the feature yet, make sure Paint is updated and you’ve signed up for the waitlist through the app.

Microsoft Paint is here to stay with a modern look. Despite Microsoft’s announcement to deprecate Paint and replace it with 3D tools in 2017, Paint remains a popular tool, and is slowly evolving. For example, the latest update added background removal and layers features to Paint on Windows 11. With the background removal feature, you can use AI to detect and remove background objects with just a single click. Similar to Photoshop, Paint now supports layers, allowing you to work independently on each “layer” of images. These features are available to all users and can be obtained via the Microsoft Store.
