Windows Copilot, an AI-powered feature integrated into Windows 11, was introduced on September 26 as part of the Windows 11 September 26 Update. However, it is currently only available to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and select countries in Asia and South America. Due to privacy protection laws in Europe, Copilot is currently unavailable in that region. Microsoft intends to expand its availability beyond the initial regions in the future.

Unlike ChatGPT and Bing Chat, Copilot is designed to interact with various Windows apps and features such as Microsoft Office, Paint, Photos, and Windows Settings. Although it is included in all versions of the Windows 11 Moment 4 update, it may not be visible on the taskbar or settings for users in certain regions.

To try Copilot in unsupported regions, you can follow these steps:

1. Open any app, like Notepad, and create a blank file named “Copilot.exe.”
2. Pin the Copilot.exe file to the desktop or taskbar, then right-click on the file.
3. Select “Properties.”
4. In the Properties window of Copilot.exe, change the “Target” location to: C:\Windows\explorer.exe “microsoft-edge:///?ux=copilot&tcp=1&source=taskbar”
5. Clicking on the newly created desktop or taskbar shortcut will launch Copilot in Windows 11.

If you prefer, you can also change the default .exe icon to the Copilot picture available here, enhancing the visual experience on any Windows 11 PC.

Copilot functions as a WebView interface powered by Microsoft Edge, with the aim to revolutionize the computing landscape. However, in its current state, it faces challenges and may struggle to provide useful results. It often oscillates between Bing’s AI-powered search engine and an AI-powered Cortana-like assistant, resulting in confusion and a lack of functionality.

Furthermore, the current Copilot preview does not offer deeper integration with Windows or support for third-party apps and plugins. Microsoft, however, assures users that the AI will continue to improve over time.

In conclusion, while Windows Copilot has the potential to be a game-changer, its current limitations and inconsistencies hinder its effectiveness. Microsoft is actively working on enhancing its functionality and expanding its availability to more regions in the future.
