Windows Insiders on the Canary and Dev Channels can now begin testing a new AI-powered feature called Cocreator in Paint. Cocreator utilizes OpenAI’s DALL-E technology, allowing Paint users to create artwork from a simple text prompt.
Insiders can describe their desired creation in Paint, and Cocreator offers the option to choose different art styles. It also provides users with three variations of an AI-generated artwork before producing the final result.
To ensure the safety of its users, Microsoft has incorporated safeguards that prevent Cocreator from generating offensive or inappropriate content. As these AI-powered features are resource-intensive, there is currently a credit system in place to limit the number of artworks users can create.
Starting today, Paint Cocreator is launching in preview for English users in the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, and Canada. However, users in the Dev and Canary channels will need to wait for an email invitation to gain early access.
“We will be gradually rolling out access, so once you receive the update, you must first join the waitlist by signing in with your Microsoft account and clicking on the new Cocreator button in the toolbar,” stated the Windows Insider team.
In addition to the Cocreator feature, Microsoft is introducing support for layers and transparency in Paint with the Windows 11 Fall Update, available for preview. It’s quite remarkable that the legacy desktop app, which Microsoft once tried to replace with Paint 3D, is now experiencing such a renaissance.
